"Works under the supervision of the Department Manager/Charge Nurse. Unit Assistants II’s will be assigned to one of Two (2) primary functions on a given unit. Unit Assistant II will be required to maintain competency for both functions. Assignment one (A-1) primary responsibility for monitoring telemetry patients at the Central Monitoring Station, recognizing rhythm abnormalities and escalating per policy. Assignment two (A-2), primary responsibility to manage the clerical duties associated with preparing, compiling, and monitoring the patient record on a Clinical Nursing unit. Floating within the unit groupings or outside of job class will be in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Utilizes positive communication skills. Able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to communicate appropriately to the age of all those served by Salinas Valley Health. Performs other duties as assigned.

Enters and processes orders accurately as demonstrated by:
? Enters communication requests in Meditech
? Scheduling tests, procedures, and treatments, including entering in the computer

JOB KNOWLEDGE:
Maintains and updates patient records as demonstrated by:
? Replenishing chart forms per unit guidelines.
? Accurately dating and labeling chart forms.
? Appropriately thinning charts per unit and Hospital guidelines.
? Organizing chart contents for surgery, tests and procedures.
? Disassembling charts upon patient discharge.
? Filing various reports and forms.
Applies knowledge of cardiac monitoring equipment as demonstrated by:
? Enters patient demographic data in computer.
? Sets appropriate alarms and parameters for optimal dysrhythmia recognition.
? Troubleshoots equipment problems.
? Maintains adequate monitoring supply stock.
? Notifies Biomedical Department and Charge Nurse of equipment failure."

REQUIREMENTS

  • Needs to be able to interpret ECG’s and what the waves mean. This role is continuous observation of a central ECG monitor with anywhere from 8-29 patients.
  • Experienced in watching the monitor, and understanding and interpreting the ekg readings to recognize and identify any arrhythmias.

 

Responsibilities

  • Monitors the heart rhythm pattern of patients to detect abnormal pattern variances, using telemetry equipment
  • Reviews patient information to determine normal heart rhythm pattern, current pattern and prior variances
  • Observes the screen of the cardiac monitor and listens for the alarm to identify abnormal variation in heart rhythm
  • Informs the Registered Nurse of variances to initiate examination of the patient
  • Measures length and height of patient’s heart rhythm pattern on graphic tape readout, using calipers,
  • Posts information on patient records

 

Education: High School diploma or GED required.

 

Successful completion of Medical Assistant or a Certified Nursing Assistant program preferred.

 

Licensure: ECG (EKG) Certificate preferred.

 

Experience: One year experience in an acute care facility preferred.

Salary30.00 - 30.00 Hour
